This summer Chanel brings us three new stunning shades of Illusion D’Ombre Long Wear Luminous Shadow in Mirage, New Moon and Utopia ($36 each for 4g/0.14oz). All three colors are breathtakingly gorgeous. I think all are universally flattering colors, each with a stunning mix of shimmers. Both New Moon and Utopia are listed as limited-edition, while Mirage is listed as permanent. As with all other Illusion D’Ombres, these are semi-sheer but layer able with intense shimmer. Swatches: More pics and swatches: Mirage is a luminous warm bronze. It seems to have been launched to replace Initiation from Holiday (which is now discontinued, but still available at Neiman Marcus). If you compare the two shades, Mirage has a more refined shimmer while Initiation has more visible silver flecks of sparkle. Both are similar on the eyes. It was a bit difficult for me to capture the differences with a flash, the shimmers blinded my camera so I have two sets of swatches. The one with flash is more accurate with color. Chanel has released two new shades of their Illusion D’Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow ($36 each) in Initiation and Fatal. Each color is beautiful alone with a simple coat of mascara but also look lovely when layered together. Lasting power is quite good for these – they did not budge from my eyes from morning to early evening when I tested these. Below: Left – Fatal, Right – Initiation Fatal is a stunning purple-red with silver sparkles. It’s like a mix between Chanel Illusoire and Ebloui but with an added kick of visible silver shimmer to make it unique. Purples can be hard for me to pull off if they have too much blue or too much red. Fatal is the perfect in between. It does look warmer in the pot than it applies on the skin but it’s a chameleon-like color. The shimmers are both red and purple so it may look different depending on what angle you hold the pot at. After my initial survey of the Chanel Spring 2014 collection (here), I didn’t think I would be picking up anything… until Kate the Driveller planted the Illusion d’Ombres in my mind. And after swatching them for myself, I was convinced that what the rest of the Spring collections seem to be missing, is neatly packed inside these two precious little glass jars (oh, how I hate the new plastic bubble thingys that are popping up this season!). Chanel #92 Diapason Illusion d’Ombre is a medium dark duochrome purple with multi-colored shimmers. It almost seemed kind of silly, that I had just recently found a new home for my #83 Illusoire, only to pick up another purple Illusion d’Ombre. But (I wished I could provide a comparison swatch, but obviously I can’t now) where Illusoire leaned more towards silver and had a grey base, Diapason has a reddish-brown base and leans more towards purple-plum. Diapason also packs some periwinkle blue, pink, and lilac shimmers which give it the duochrome personality.
